Understanding The Patterns Behind Pain
What Is myoActivation?
A Different Way to Understand Pain
Where it hurts isn't always where it starts.
myoActivation® is a structured assessment and treatment system developed by Dr. Greg Siren, MD, that looks beyond the location of pain to understand how the interconnected muscles, fascia, scars, movement patterns, and history of injury may be contributing to pain and restricted movement.
Unlike approaches that focus primarily on the area where symptoms are felt, myoActivation® considers the body as an interconnected system.
Who Can Benefit from myoActivation?
When pain or restricted movement starts getting in the way of life.
myoActivation® may be a valuable approach if pain, stiffness, or restricted movement is keeping you from doing the things you want to do.
It may be particularly relevant if you:
Have persistent or recurring pain that hasn't fully resolved.
Have tried other treatments without getting the results you hoped for.
Are dealing with the lasting effects of an old injury, accident, surgery, scar, or repetitive strain.
Experience pain or tension related to physical work, posture, overuse, or repetitive movement.
Are an athlete whose pain or movement restrictions are affecting performance.
Are experiencing stiffness or mobility changes that are beginning to affect your independence or everyday activities.
Have pain in multiple areas or symptoms that don't seem to have an obvious explanation.
Feel that your pain is limiting your work, hobbies, relationships, sleep, or quality of life.
If you've been treating the pain but haven't found the answer...
myoActivation® offers a different way of looking at persistent pain. Rather than focusing only on where you hurt, the assessment considers your history, movement, posture, injuries, scars, and the interconnected myofascial system to identify patterns that may be contributing to your symptoms.
How myoActivation Works.
1. Understanding your history
Your body has a history. Previous injuries, surgeries, accidents, falls, repetitive movements, scars, physical trauma, and other experiences can leave lasting changes in how tissues function.
Your assessment begins by looking at this history alongside your current symptoms and movement limitations.
2. Assessing how your body moves
Rather than focusing only on where you hurt, I assess your posture, movement patterns, range of motion, and the way different parts of your body work together.
This can help identify patterns of tension, restriction, or altered movement that may be contributing to your symptoms.
3. Identifying myofascial contributors
Muscles and fascia form an interconnected network throughout the body. Areas of dysfunction can develop within this system, including trigger points and changes in tissue tension or mobility.
These areas don't always correspond to where pain is felt.
Through movement assessment, inspection, and palpation, I look for patterns that may help explain your symptoms and movement restrictions.
4. Treating the areas that need attention
Once relevant myofascial patterns have been identified, treatment uses precise dry needling to address trigger points and areas of dysfunction.
This may mean treating tissues that don't feel painful to you—but that assessment suggests may be contributing to the problem elsewhere.
The goal is to improve the function and integrity of the myofascial system and support more efficient movement.
5. Reassessing and refining
Your response to treatment becomes part of the assessment.
Movement and symptoms are reassessed throughout the process to understand how your body is responding and to help guide the next stage of treatment.
myoActivation® looks beyond where you feel pain to understand what may be contributing to it.
Why would I treat somewhere that doesn't hurt?
Because pain and movement restrictions don't always originate in the area where you feel them.
Your body is an interconnected system. An old injury, surgery, scar, repetitive strain, or change in movement can affect how other areas of the body move and function. Over time, these changes may contribute to pain or restriction somewhere else.
myoActivation® is designed to investigate those relationships.
